National Service Scheme (NSS) is an educational programme which came into force in 1969 on the year of 100th birth anniversary of Great Mahatma Gandhi. Dr. V.K.R.V Rao, human resource minister of the time, launched the NSS programme on 24thSeptember, 1969. Personality Development through Social Service is the basic objective of NSS. National Service Scheme provides the volunteers an opportunity to understand the needs and problems of the society which would lead them to involve in the process of solving problems. It helps to develop social and civil responsibility among volunteers. The motto of NSS ‘Not me but you’ reflects the self -less service and appreciation of others’ point of view.
