1. Fundamentals of Accounting

Fundamentals of Accounting is an open course for Arts and Science students offered by the Board of Studies in Commerce. Accounting is the language of business. Accounting is a means of communicating the results of business operations to various parties interested in or connected with the organization. Accounting is associated not only with business but also with everybody who is interested in keeping an account of money received and money spent. The objective of this course is to familiarize the students with the basic accounting principles and practices in business.

2. Brand Management

Branding is essential and vital for any product and service. Brand Management focuses on understanding the ramification of various branding principles and concepts. Brand management is a broad term used to describe marketing strategies to maintain, improve and bring awareness to the wider value and reputation of a brand and its products over time. A strong brand management strategy helps to build and nurture closer relationships with its audience. Brand management gives the students an opportunity to understand the various aspects of marketing including packaging, product or service quality, marketing campaigns, and the customers’ emotional experience of interacting with a brand. It also includes a broad understanding of various elements of brand management like: brand awareness, brand attributes and associations, perceived quality, and brand loyalty. Branding is important because not only makes a memorable impression on consumers but it allows customers and clients to know what to expect from a company. It is a way of distinguishing a product from the competitors and clarifying what it is being offered. Brand Management can also opt as a career as the students get a good idea of the company’s products and services as well as the market through a study of brand management.

3. COMPUTER FUNDAMENTALS INTERNET&MS OFFICE

COURSE OVERVIEW

A hands-on introduction to personal computers and application software. Students will learn basic computer terminology, the role of computers in society, and the use of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation, database, and Internet software.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Understand and be able to converse in basic computer terminology.
  • Formulate opinions about the impact of computers on society.
  • Create, format, and save word processing documents.
  • Create, format and save simple spreadsheets.
  • Create an overhead presentation.
  • Create and enter records into a simple database.
  • Use select queries to retrieve information from a database.
  • Access and evaluate Internet-based information.
  • Use e-mail to communicate with others.
  • Be able to organize disks and files.
  • Integrate software applications into their life and school work.

Unit II

The Internet, TCP/IP, IP Addressing, Client-Server Communication, Intranet,

WWW, Web Browser and Web Server, Hyperlinks, URLs, Electronic Email

Unit III

Word processing: Introduction, Microsoft Word, Basic Menus, Formatting the text& paragraph, working with Index

Unit IV

Spread Sheet: Introduction, Microsoft Excel, Basic Menus, Formulas, Basic

functions, Charts and Graphs.

Unit V

Microsoft PowerPoint: Introduction, Basic Menus, Template, Slide Basics, Charts, Adding Multimedia &Animation.

4. English for Carriers

The Department of English SAC Peruvanthanam offers the Open Course, English for Careers to the students of other programmes. Theaimofthecourseistomakethestudents competent in their job-seeking, job-getting and job-holding needs. The course shall cater to equipping the students in comprehensive Language enhancement. On completion of the course, the students should be able to develop communicative skills, which will enable them to prepare for a career and function effectively in it. To enhance their academic and professional use of language the students are equipped in oral and written communication and trained for making effective presentations.
