DESCRIPTION OF THE MERITS

IN THE FIELD OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION AND COMMUNAL HARMONY

Established Nilackal Ecumenical Trust in 1984 which works for the communal harmony, Ecumenism and National Integration. The Trust is working mainly in the fields of inter religious dialogue and cultural education. The Trust has a training centre for different groups of people.

FOUNDED TWO NATIONAL AWARD

  1. For those who did outstanding contributions in the field of national integration and religious harmony. This award was presented in the year 2005 to Dr. K.N. Panikker, former Vice Chancellor of Sanskrit University, Kalady, Kerala and in the year 2006 to Dr. U.R. Ananthamoorthy, the “Jnanapeedam” winner and former Chairman of UGC and former Vice Chancellor of M.G. University Kerala. In the year 2008 the award was presented to Dr. Prameela Devi, the renowned poetess.  and social activist, and the only woman delegate from Asia to address American Congress on Atomic issue and also to Hamsa Malavi Farooqui an eminent leader and the former Palayam Imam In 2009  the same award was bestowed upon Srmt. Sugatha Kumari, an Indian poet, who has been at the forefront of environmental and feminist movements in Kerala, South India. In 2010 this was awarded to Perumbadavam Sreedharan a prolific Malayalam author from Kerala state, South India
  2. For those who contributed extra ordinarily in the field of education and ecumenism. In the year 2005 this award was given to Most. Re. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrisostom, the Supreme Head of Marthoma Church and in the year 2006 this award was presented to Archbishop Mar. Joseph Powathil, the Chairman of Inter – Church Council for education. Since last ten years, an inter religious dialogue is being conducted in January and well known scholars and speakers from different religion take part in it regularly.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT

  1. For 100% realisation of literacy and popularisation of computer education among the rural people, some villages were adopted and were given free computer education. One among them is Elikulam village at Kottayam District in Kerala.
  2. As part of women empowerment, conducted free training programme in Readymade Garments and Embroidery in Peravanthanam, Idukky district in association with SISI (Small Industries Service Institute. Govt, of India)
  3. Provided free computer education to 416 BPL (Below poverty level) students in association with the district panchayat, Kottayam without any distinction of caste, creed or religion.
  4. Constructed more than 200 houses for poor families in Kottayam District without any discrimination of caste, creed or religion.
  5. Provides free technical and professional education to more than 300 students every year without any discrimination of caste, creed or religion.
  6. Provided employment to more than 300 educated people throughout Kerala.
  7. Provides financial assistance, Text books, Note books and uniforms to poor student from different villages.
